Solar Panels for the Home

Solar panels are a perfectly clean and renewable source of energy. With the world becoming very conscious of climate change, many see options like solar panels to be excellent partial solutions to a home's carbon footprint.

The rewards are not confined to the cleanliness of energy production, however. Given enough time, solar panels will reimburse the money you initially spent on them, by comparing the free energy they produce once installed, to the rising costs of conventional energy. As such, many homes in the UK are beginning to bear the distinctive solar panels.

There are currently two major types of solar system; solar water-heating systems, and photo-voltaic (PV) systems. The first heats your water, and can provide around a third of your household water heating needs. The second option is more expensive, but produces electricity to power anything in your home, and larger systems can provide up to 40% of your home's electricity needs.

Solar panels are a fairly large investment, but depending on the size, number and type of panels you have, you can save from £50 to over £200 a year on heating and electricity costs. There are many different options for solar panels, and there are many resources online that explain the science behind them, pricing, and construction needs and costs.
